Thoughts on rakan units from those who've used them

My initial thoughts are monks and crossbowmen, but with both using the same gem that will be a tough combo to juggle.

Anyone from ptr or someone who has been messing around with them since the patch that can weigh in?

Any of the units completely useless that I should ignore?

What should I focus on as far as gold units?

Gold Crossbowmen seems good in the battlefield.

While their piercing skills doesn't reach quite far in a garrison defense, they're still a decent all around unit.

How about ninja and samurai, worth making even silver or is monk/crossbow/a turtle the best combo?

I'm not the best person to give you advice on a Rakkan line-up. But if I were to main a Rakkan, I would use All Silver turtle front line + All Gold/Silver crossbowmen at the back.

All silver turtle front is a bad option for most battles. While they each have high health, a squad of smaller units have a combined higher HP. And of cause, they take up half the battle field, and do little damage to large units.

I never found a use for samurai, other than to use in quests vs skeletons when there were no spiders. But I didn't do much PvP on the ptr.

I suggested a PvP line up and the point is, making the turtles as bait/tank while keeping the backline stable, I never mentioned they were for DPS. If you will focus on pure humanoid units, you're an easy prey to any Lich. The majority of your damage will come from hero skills/spells and crossbow units + pierce.

As a Lich player, that's one thing to be scared of. If you will go pure humanoids against me as Rakkan, you will melt in seconds.

In addition, you can always mix and match them. I never said it was the best line up, I was only giving my personal preference. If you have one you should share it as well.

Wonder how they fare in garrisons with their reliance on active abilities. Probably not too well

Rakan are quite amazing. Very active in battles and a lot of scope for changing how you play them as well as some cooler support abilities like monks having increased damage when on loan or defending an ally.

I am currently running gold turtle, gold monks, silver crossbows and silver monks or samurai depending on the mood of the battle. Borrowing sharpshooters, rockets or cav to fill the smaller gaps in your formation can be useful too.

Gold Monks - very strong units and actually more useful coming from the back line I find, using a strong silver frontline of monks of samurai. The flying kick skill allows them to engage fast into already damage units and proc a morale boost by killing them.

Gold Turtle - not sold on its advantage over the silver ones yet as the heal time for losing it and the cost of its skill is huge (3k mana vs 800 on level turtles gold vs silver) I think I might send it to garrison as it gets buffed for defending allies or being loaned to allies and i might try gold crossbows or ninjas depending on what I get resources for.

If people want more detail stuff on them i can try to answer but I am still learning a lot of it. Mirror has been great to get to learn them and they are truly fun to play, just bloody mana expensive and considering fire-off cost something like 60 mana, it could be balanced a little better

my level 8 golds cost 3000 mana to activate skills which can be so excessive in duels, costing upwards of 10k in a battle. - this could be looked at but I haven't had a duel without lag so far since the patch so it's a bit hard to tell how the balance is so far.
