I'm only now getting to the stage of using pets, so I have some questions.

(1) Can a pet's master be changed? If so, how do I do this (I incorrectly assigned one to the wrong hero)
(2) What is the best way to get eggs, on which levels?
(3) In terms of pet food, what is the best to get?
(4) Is level 7 the highest a pet can grow?
(5) How far up to the pets abilities get to, in other words, what is the highest amount of coins I'll have to spend for a level 7 pet to upgrade abilities?

Above level 9.95, you can obtain pet eggs in chapters 17 and 18. Or get it from the event
3. Different pets have different foods
4. Yes
5. Pets are worth training because pets can be paired with different heroes

Ok, thank you. My main concern was 1 because I couldn't find it on the screen.

Also, is there a way to know what foods certain pets eat? I bought some food but the pets won't eat it lol so I need to know who eats what.

Just because the above answers may not be particularly helpful:

(2) Any stage (normal or heroic) in Chapters 17 & 18. Doesn't matter which one, only matters how much stamina you spend. A purple pet drops at around every 12k stamina spent.

(3) Get the discount pet food (of any kind, yellow border) because it can be fed to any pets. Each pet eats only one kind of blue pet food (except Peggy which eats everything).

(4) Comfort level of pets is bounded by stars of the hero.

(5) Abilities go up to 40. From level 1 to 40 costs 23.31m gold. Last ability point alone costs 1.28m.

Thank you for your added info.

Not too keen to spend that much on upgrading the pets abilities. Are they worth it?

Mika's, Peggy's, and Angus' abilities are worth it after you reach level 100. You will see that you have way more gold available once you don't need to level up the abilities of your heroes anymore. I have left Emerson's, Jack's and Wallace's abilities untouched so far and I'm doing alright. Don't level up abilities of blue or green pets unless it is Torch on Sylphi and Sumiko.

Thank you for all your help guys. As I'm level 96, I don't think I'll be using the pets just yet. I might wait until I hit level 100.

Can't see in any way how is that a good idea. You can easily just take out the pets from heroes, if you want to save gold you don't need to increase their abilities, the base skills and boosts are decent enough. I work skills as a daily, so after many days they will end up maxed out.
